How does a flat dish that never moves keep hold of satellites racing across the sky? Press the steps, or wait and the dish runs them by itself.×3

The big idea: the dish never turns. Hundreds of tiny antennas under its face fire with small timing offsets, and the offsets lean the beam across the sky to follow a satellite ≈550 km up, then hand over to the next one. It even heats itself to melt snow. (All three facts are SpaceX's; the inside layout is drawn as typical.)
